But it was finding his “fit” in the world that haunted him at times; and otherwise surprised him with delight. His sense of place and station, he came to see was a state of mind as much as anything that ever was; and a spirit of grace and redemption that called to him from the hidden places; and reconsidering the works and lives of explorers: artists, poets and writers, all but forgotten.
