It wasn’t a place I knew, for I had never gone there if only though I might have started there long ago.

1.1 A breeze stirred in the trees. I wondered where you had gone.
1.2 What I wished was it had been me instead of you. That you had sent another postcard to me like the one you sent when I was a boy. The one I never got.
1.3 I wished that you would send one now and it would have a picture of big rocks spinning endlessly in a dark blue sea. On the back you would have written. “Wish you were here.” You would say, “I’m living in a strange land now. The kind I had only hoped to imagine but it is so much more.”
1.4 “A place so exotic and indescribable only because in this place, my longing to see my children was covered over twice with golden light which had replaced my longing to see you again, which was handily and slowly subsumed by the fire of a unity that had shown as bright as the sun.”
At first your words had stung with the abandonment I feared.
